Wageningen UR has once again received media attention in Bulgaria with its education and research on healthy nutrition and life style. Last week, four TV channels broadcasted Delia de Vreeze's Bike It Off workshop in which she showed how many calories an individual burns during a workout on a hometrainer and what this means for his/her eating pattern.
The cycling workshop was part of Wageningen UR's presentation at an important international education fair in Sofia. The joint stand of Van Hall Larenstein and Wageningen University attracted a lot of attention, part incited by all the media attention. Ingrid de Vries and John Fingleton, marketing representatives from Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences, and Delia de Vreeze, international recruitment manager, were busy. Visitors were especially interested in the MSc study programmes, about three times as many people as last year. The enthusiastic contribution of Inna Ivanova, a Management, Economics and Consumer Studies student and originally from Bulgaria, certainly contributed to this success.
Delia de Vreeze also gave presentations about the importance of internationalisation for education, research and innovation and collaborating with industry. The employees from the Ministry of Agriculture, and the rectors and professors of Bulgarian universities who attended these presentations had several questions about the connection of the Dutch education system to the educational structure in Bulgaria. They wanted to know what this meant for the education of Bulgarian students and what influence education could have on the development of the (agricultural) economy in their country.
Of course, the Wageningen delegation also gave presentations at the Agricultural University of Plovdiv, which Wageningen UR has had good contacts with for years. This relationship was again notably emphasised by Prof. Dr. Dimitar Grekov, the Rector of the Agricultural University Plovdiv.
It was the second time in a row that Wageningen UR was in the limelight at the fair. Last year Delia also received attention from Bulgarian television with her presentation on Santana apples.
